Amazon announces end to price parity

27.08.2013

Amazon has informed the Bundeskartellamt that it intends to no longer enforce price parity on its Marketplace platform. Under the price parity clause sellers are prohibited from selling products they offer on Amazon cheaper through any other sales channel. After the announcement the company has already changed its general terms of business for some of the sellers.

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt: "The Bundeskartellamt is currently assessing whether the measures will be sufficient in their form, content and scope for the proceedings against the company to be terminated. One precondition for this is that the company gives up its price parity clause for good and there is no risk of any repeat action. This will remain the focus of our examinations."
