Bundeskartellamt statement on fuel prices on 1 June 2022

Andreas Mundt, President of the Bundeskartellamt: “The fact that prices decreased yesterday is a good sign. However, it is important to see what is going to happen in the next few days and weeks. We will continue to keep a close watch on the developments. I would like to call upon motorists again to use a price comparison app. Comparing prices pays off. Prices may vary by more than 20 cents in the same city in the course of a single day. You should consider buying petrol at one of the cheaper petrol stations early in the evening.

Based on the data collected by the Market Transparency Unit for Fuels the Bundeskartellamt continuously monitors the price development at the approximately 15.000 petrol stations in Germany. The Market Transparency Unit shares the data it collects on fuel prices across Germany with authorised consumer information services. Motorists can call up the information from a number of information service providers, both online and via mobile apps.
